Hi There! My name is John. For my entire life (over 40 years now) I have lived in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. When I travel to the Midwest or the West Coast with my husband Steve, I tell people we are from Boston. I ask them if they’ve ever been to Boston…or any other part of New England and if they know what it’s like. The answer I most often get is a resounding “No”. That response inspired me to create this website as a “solution” of sorts. A glimpse into what it looks like to grow up gay in Massachusetts.

I grew up south of Boston. So technically, I’m a “Bay Stater” (or is it “Gay Stater” possibly? I laugh when I say that out loud haha). Calling myself a Bostonian is perhaps a little controversial. The truth is that Boston has had such a huge impact on my life. An impact of who I am and who I have become. I’m confident enough to own it…so I’m owning it…I am the Gay Bostonian! Each month visit this site for a new story intertwined with photos.

I hope these stories about both my life and the city of Boston inspire you. I hope it will give you an idea what it means to grow up in New England if you have never lived or visited here.
